A message from the Principal

Dear SJMS Community

On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast Day of St Joseph. Our day began with a Mass celebrated by Fr Paul Mullins and ended with the students gathering at the pool for a day of great celebration.

I received many emails from Josephite schools and centres around Australia marking and celebrating this significant day in the Josephite calendar.

St Joseph was often portrayed as a simple carpenter within the Scriptures. But as our students could tell us through their learnings he was anything but this. The little we know about Joseph from the Scriptures shows us a man of faith, honour and courage. He believes Mary even when he might have chosen to reject her story about the angel. He stands by her. Joseph is a man of integrity and truth. We live in a society obsessed with rights and a world that seems to reward the brash, pushy, and selfish. Joseph stands in stark contrast. He is a man characterised by compassion, strength, trust, respect, honesty, integrity, self-sacrifice and courage.

A message from the Assistant Principal RIM

Dear SJMS Community

On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of St Joseph. St Joseph was the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. He was a carpenter, a man of faith and obedient to whatever God asked of him. Although not the father of Jesus, he responded to God’s call to care for Jesus as his own when an Angel appeared to him in a dream.

St Joseph was very important to St Mary ‘of the Cross’ MacKillop. The name of the Religious Order that she founded with Fr Julian Woods was the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. These women who followed God’s call and joined St Mary MacKillop in her work and continue to do so today are known as the Josephite Sisters.

A message from the Parents and Friends Committee

Dear SJMS Community

What a great day we had for the SJMS Fun Run; the sun was shining, we had perfect weather, a lovely location, some great raffle prizes and some very fast runners and walkers. A very big thankyou to all the children and parents who came out and participated in this wonderful event and to the teachers and staff who helped to make the day such a success. Many thanks to the Norman family (Willow Bay Australia), the Slade family for the footballs and the Bria Family for the Norwood Football Club items, these donations made for a very popular raffle. Lastly, we would like to thank all the members of the P&F who made treats for our treats stall and to Kimberley Kennedy for organising it. We had such generous donation of treats that we were able to have a Bake Sale on St Joseph’s Day as well.

Catholic Police Checks for Volunteers

Catholic Police Checks are free to submit for volunteers!

Application Forms are available from either school office.

Please note - there are many times throughout the school year where visitors are required to have a current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events).

This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through either school office.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at either office.

Thanking you
