A message from the Principal

Dear SJMS Community

This Sunday is the 6th Sunday of Easter. The Gospel is taken from Jesus’ discourse at the Last Supper and is dominated by his coming departure. The final gift that Jesus leaves for his disciples is the gift of peace ‘a peace that the world cannot give.’  Sometimes we mistake this peace for our idea of quietness or tranquillity, but the peace the Jesus gives is a peace that can be found even in the midst of turmoil, as Jesus illustrated in the days following this discourse at the Last Supper.

A message from the Assistant Principal, RIM

Dear SJMS Community

The Easter season is a significant time in our Church and for ourselves. Bishop Greg O’Kelly in The Southern Cross asks us, “What are the signs of resurrection in our lives? They are there in the hope, love, kindness and goodness that surrounds us, but we must look.”

It is through our Baptism, that we are called to be the face of Christ. We are challenged to do this by transmitting our faith; through prayer, acts of service and penance, studying the scripture and by asking ourselves how we can be Christ's hands, feet and eyes on earth? In this way, we are living out the Easter message of resurrection.

A message from the Parents and Friends Committee

Dear SJMS Community

This week is National Volunteers Week, May 20-26, we would like to acknowledge all our wonderful volunteers within our community that donate their time and effort to supporting numerous school and community events and activities. Without these wonderful people we would not be able to achieve as much as we do, thank you.

Catholic Police Checks for Volunteers

Catholic Police Checks are free to submit for volunteers!

Application Forms are available from either school office.

Please note - there are many times throughout the school year where visitors are required to have a current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events).

This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through either school office.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at either office.

Thanking you

Woolworths Earn and Learn

St Joseph’s Memorial School will once again be participating in the Woolworths Earn and  Learn promotion. In past years we have been able to supplement the school’s resources through this program. We have collected enough stickers to get new music, mathematics, science and technology items. If you or other family members regularly shop at Woolworths please collect the stickers for us. You can either place them on the sticker sheets yourselves (it’s a fun activity for children!) Then deliver the completed sticker sheets to the collection boxes or just collect the stickers and put them in the collection boxes. We’ll have some student monitors whose job it will be each Friday to place the stickers on the sheets and count up the sheets.

Collection boxes are to be found in the 4 block classroom foyer, the office at Bridge Street and in the foyer at William Street. There are stickers sheets placed near the collection boxes for people to help themselves to.

Happy collecting!
